Playa Viva runs on a 100% off-grid solar system

Along the pristine western coast of Mexico, just a scenic 35-minute drive south of Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa International Airport lies Playa Viva—a sanctuary where sustainability intertwines with luxury to redefine the essence of eco-conscious travel. Situated amidst a mile of secluded beachfront, Playa Viva's commitment to environmental stewardship and community empowerment permeates every aspect of its ethos.

Playa Viva's idyllic setting boasts more than just picturesque landscapes—it serves as a sanctuary for biodiversity. The property spans nearly 200 acres, including an estuary, an Aztec archaeological site, and a coastal forest teeming with diverse wildlife. Crucially, Playa Viva plays a pivotal role in preserving the region's delicate ecosystems, with particular emphasis on protecting endangered marine turtle species. La Tortuga Viva (LTV), a volunteer-led initiative founded by Playa Viva in 2010, safeguards sea turtle nests from predators and poachers. To date, LTV has successfully released over 450,000 baby sea turtles back into the ocean, fostering the resurgence of these magnificent creatures.

Beyond its environmental endeavors, Playa Viva is deeply rooted in uplifting the surrounding community of Juluchuca. The Regenerative Trust, a pioneering initiative introduced in 2013, embodies the hotel's commitment to holistic sustainability. Through a 2% fee included in guest bills, the Regenerative Trust channels funds directly into local projects focused on education, health, and economic development. This innovative approach underscores Playa Viva's unwavering dedication to creating meaningful and lasting change at the grassroots level.

Playa Viva's dedication to sustainability extends to every facet of its operation. The resort operates entirely off-grid, relying on a solar energy system and smart water conservation measures to minimize environmental impact. Permaculture principles guide the property's design, fostering self-sustaining ecosystems that harmonize with nature. From utilizing locally sourced materials to supporting indigenous artisans, Playa Viva seamlessly integrates natural authenticity into its architectural aesthetic, ensuring a truly immersive and enriching experience for guests.
